Cathay Pacific Cargo is introducing its Fire Resistant Container (FRC) – a significant boost to its fire containment solutions for the safe transport of RBI lithium-ion batteries (UN3480 PI965 Section 1A and 1B).
The FRC is a flame-retardant AKE ULD, designed and manufactured by Nordisk, which caters for larger packaging and quantities of battery shipments. The FRC joins the existing fire containment bags to offer our customers a complete range of options for battery shipments up to skid size.
The FRC can take loads of up to 1,500kg and can passively contain a fire. It is also suitable, where permitted, for consolidation of loose or skid-size RBI cargo and general cargo in order to optimise flexibility and more efficient use of space.
‘Our Fire Containment Bags have been popular in the market,’ said John Cheng, Head of Cargo Markets and Products. ‘We are now pleased to introduce a Fire Resistant Container in AKE form, which expands available options for the safe carriage of RBI shipments to cater to the differing needs of our customers.’
The FRC is available initially for use at the following freighter destinations: Brisbane West Wellcamp, Calcutta, Chennai, Chongqing, Delhi, Dhaka, Frankfurt, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Jakarta, London (Heathrow), Melbourne, Milan (Malpensa), Mumbai, Osaka (Kansai), Penang, Phnom Penh, Seoul (Incheon), Shanghai (Pudong), Singapore, Sydney, Taipei (Taoyuan), Tokyo (Narita), Toronto and Xiamen.
We are progressively extending the service to other Cathay Pacific freighter destinations.
